Fresh and Fruity, Bright, And Pretty.  Don’t Mind If I Do!

Prosecco Sangria is a perfect cocktail for warmer weather.  Spring is definitely in bloom here!  It’s time to make the change from warm and cozy into light and refreshing.  I am spending most of my day working in my garden, so this is what I’m planning for my reward at the end of the day!  Bright and fruity, Prosecco Sangria!

I’m not a fan of a too-sweet cocktail.  I don’t like sweet wines at all.  However, if a Sangria is made without too much extra surgery stuff, I kinda like it.  Especially on a warm afternoon or evening.   So, when I make sangria,  I usually hold off on the simple syrup or other sweeteners and add more of the boozy stuff.  ‘Cause, that’s just how I roll.  Sangria usually sits over night letting all the fruits take on the alcohol and flavor the wine.  But, with Prosecco Sangria, you have to be careful that the fizz doesn’t get lost too quickly.  This stuff must be drunk, lickety-split.  Oh, that reminds me, are you watching Ozark on Netflix?  Well, you should!  If you like dark, suspenseful and a bit shocking stories filled with odd characters, oh, boy!  This is the show to watch.   Oh my, I’m off on a tangent, so….back to the cocktail story.

Sparkling Prosecco Sangria!

I love sparkling wine!  Prosecco, champagne, or sparkling wine!   When I make sangria, I usually add some type of sparkling water to give it a bit of fizz. But, by using prosecco, you’ve skipped another step!  In order to keep the fizzy part, just cut up the fruit and add it to your serving pitcher.  Add all the ingredients, except the prosecco and let it sit in the fridge, covered overnight.  Then, when you’re ready to drink it the next day, just top with a bottle of your favorite bubbly.  This recipe packs a punch, so be warned.  This is how I do it!

In a pretty serving pitcher, pour 1/2 cup vodka and 1/2 cup limoncello and 1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice and the juice of 1 lime.  Limoncello is a very popular lemon liquor from Italy.  I don’t know a single person from Italy or anyone who’s just gone for a visit that does not cherish this Italian specialty.  Add to the mix, all the sliced citrus you love.  I like oranges, lemons and limes.  I threw in some kumquat, and some Meyer lemon.  Add grapefruit if you have some and blood orange is beautiful in this sangria.

Use a mix of your favorite citrus fruits for Prosecco Sangria

Give it a mix and cover with plastic and let it sit either over night or all day.  When you’re ready to serve, pour an entire bottle of either prosecco or your favorite sparkling wine.  Serve in a tall glass, over ice.  Relax and enjoy!  Cheers!
