The Witches Reign Cocktail!  The Call To Order 🦇

It was late October in the year 1693 when all the witches were deeply involved in preparations for their annual meeting.  Each year, every coven from as far as the broom could fly would travel to attend.  This year, was a particularly important meeting.  For this year, they would decide upon a new “Supreme Ruler”.

Earlier in the year, a particularly lethal curse had left the position vacated.  A most ruthless spell, successfully cast by an incredibly powerful and majestic sorcerer, had left the last “Supreme Ruler” in a permanent, watery dungeon in a cavern, under the deepest part of the raging river.   Let’s face it, the job does have its perils.

Since it was common for a “Supreme Ruler” to hold the office for many centuries, this opportunity was rare and the competition was fierce.  Everyone, it seemed, wanted the enviable position.  Some would do anything to obtain the all-mighty power.   It was rumored that someone even requested help from some of the Russian covens.

Ambition

In particular, one clever witch wished to win.  She was a very hard worker.  Ambitious and smart and she cared about all the other witches too.  She was confident that she could do the best job and look out for the future of all the individual witches and their covens.  She’d worked tirelessly on many of the leadership committees for centuries.   An optimist by nature, still she could see, it was going to be tough.  It was a common understanding that only the male witches (warlocks) would truly be considered for election in this highest position.   For reasons not clearly understood, it had just always been this way.

With determination, she shared her dreams with the other witches.   “Oh, my dear, that will never happen,” they said with defiance.  “It’s always a warlock!”.  “You haven’t a chance!  You can’t be a “Supreme Leader, you’re a girl!”  they cried!  “They will never vote you in!”  “You can’t win!”.

Me Too!

One of the elder witches shared her story.  “Whenever I’ve thought of challenging the leadership, I was so swiftly thwarted”.  “I’ve been told It can’t happen, that I would risk promotion if I tried and failed”.  Another chimed in, “One of the Warlocks threatened me if I dared try,  he said,  he’d be sure there was no place for me in any other coven!”.  Another told her story, how she was left alone with one of the elders and he dropped his robe right in front over her!  “Of all things, I was so humiliated, I never told anyone, I was so ashamed and embarrassed”.  “I was always afraid that no one would believe me, so I never said a word”.

Shocked to hear all the stories, each chimed in with a me-too of their own.  It had happened to all of them in some shocking form or another.

“We can’t let this go on said the ambitious witch”.  “I am going to win and start a change”.  This time, all the other witches rose to their feet and stood by her and vowed to help make a change too.  “We will all support you!  shouted the entire coven of witches.

The Election

On October 31st, the convention came to order.  The covens all represented, the voting began.  One by one, the witches, male and female, made their will known.  It was time to change the order and allow everyone an equal opportunity.  Why on earth, had did they wait so long?  Finally, in victory, they all knew what’s true, that everyone wins when everyone is heard.

Together, all the covens celebrated this victory with The Witch’s Reign Cocktail!   Why don’t we all celebrate and have one too!

The Witches Reign Cocktail 🍸

Here’s how to make it!

Prepare a cocktail glass.  This is beautiful in a classic coup or martini glass.  Wet the rim with lime juice, then roll the rim in black sanding sugar.  Set aside to dry.

Into a cocktail shaker filled 1/2 with ice, add 2 ounces of vodka, 1/2 ounce of Grand Marnier and 1/2 ounce of pomegranate syrup.  Add 3-4 dashes of orange bitters.  Shake vigorously for at least 25 seconds.  Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass.  Add a teaspoon of pomegranate seeds and for fun, top with a pinch of edible pearl dust.

Now, Hocus Pocus!    This drink is positively magical too. Cheers!
