Grapefruit And Rosemary Fell In Love And This Baby Was Born!

I don’t know why I love this drink so much!  I am not a big grapefruit fan, but when these flavors come together, magic happens.  This is a lovely, refreshing, and beautiful drink!  I hope you’ll try this “Blushing Rosemary” Cocktail!

Blushing Rosemary Cocktail

My neighbor has a much-loved and cherished pink grapefruit tree.  Whenever his fruit is gone, he scours the neighborhood to see who’s not picking their trees.  Once he’s gone through all the pink grapefruit, he moves down the ladder to the regular ones.  I stole the grapefruit for this cocktail from his tree.  Or rather, I sent my husband to steal it.  ‘Cause, I’m no thief!  Just kidding.  I am a thief.  In fact, the line around here is “no fruit tastes better than stolen fruit”.  I used to get a kick out of roaming the hood and taking delicious low hanging fruit from others.  I’m joking, not joking.  Actually, the neighbor that taught me that line is the very son of the neighbor I stole the grapefruit from, so see, it’s all good.  Anyway, here’s the divine recipe!

Cocktail Magic – Rosemary Infused Simple Syrup

In a small pan, make the rosemary infused simple syrup.  Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water and start the heat on medium, low.  Add 3 good size sprigs of rosemary.  Heat until the mixture is simmering and the sugar has dissolved.  Let it cool completely, then remove the rosemary.  Put it into a jar to chill in the fridge.

Using a paring knife, take a long thin strip of skin off the grapefruit.  Trim to about 1/4 inch wide, then curl into a tight circle and secure with a cocktail skewer.  It should look like a little rose.  Set aside.

In a rocks glass, fill with ice to the rim.  Add 1/2 chilled rosemary simple syrup, the juice of the entire grapefruit, about 4 ounces total, 2 ounces vodka or gin then top with sparking water or club soda.  Garnish with the curled rose and a sprig of fresh rosemary and some supreme of the grapefruit (a section of the grapefruit without any of the pith or fibers attached), and Bob’s your uncle!  Cheers!
