A Spirited  Cheer To Día de los Muertos

Here’s a cocktail for your weekend celebration! A Corpse Reviver #2 Cocktail will put you in just the right, cheerful spirit.  It’s Perfect for a celebratory toast to those you love who’ve left this world on their spiritual journey.  It’s a tasty tipple with a bit of artistry too.

About The Cocktail

So Named, the Corpse Reviver it is a name for a number of cocktails that are  sometimes “enjoyed” as alcoholic hangover “cures”.  So strong, it was said it could wake a dead person.  Some Corpse Reviver cocktail recipes have been lost to time,  but several variations with ties to the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel remain, and originally date back to at least 1930 and are still being made.

This version the Corpse Reviver #2, features gin, but also Lillet Blanc.   An aperitif wine, Lillet Blanc is made from Bourdeaux grapes along with macerated fruit liqueurs, which gives it a nicely fruity, but not overly sweet, taste.   You may even like just a splash of Lillet Blanc over ice.  It’s very light and refreshing.

Said to be the tastiest version of the Corpse Reviver but I cannot say that I have tried them all.  But give me a bit of time and eventually I just might.

The Day Of The Dead

Are you familiar with the Day of The Dead?  Día de los Muertos is celebrated over several days, starting on October 31st and continuing until November 2nd.

A beautiful celebration where loved ones that have passed on are remembered and honored.   In tribute, favorite foods and beverages are offered in constructed alters or at grave sites.  The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and helping support their spiritual journey.

If you’re toasting to your loved ones who are no longer here, why not give this Corpse Reviver Cocktail a try?

The Corpse Reviver #2

Pour a dash of Absinthe in a coup glass.

Into a cocktail shaker 1/2 filled with ice, add the gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, lemon juice until the shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds.

Light the absinthe and carefully use the flame to lightly toast the orange peel.

Before the glass gets too hot, pour in the contents of the shaker (this will put out the flame).   Squeeze the peel over a flame to release and caramelize the oils over the cocktail.
Wipe the peel around the rim of the glass.   Drop the orange peel into the glass and enjoy.

Corpse Reviver

Cheers!
